Well - I swear 2022 was played in fast forward. I won't get to see everyone this week so I'm taking a little blog space to say a huge thank you to all of the incredible Room 14 team. We have had a wonderful year filled with lots of learning, lots of laughs and lots of love.

I have been blessed with the most amazing, talented and kind bunch of kids that a teacher could ask for. Thank you my little rays of sunshine. You have been incredibly patient with me when I forget things (all the time), you are kind to me when I'm not 100% and are forgiving when I get tired and cranky. You work super hard, help each other tackle tricky learning and you've gone along with all my ideas (even when you think I might be a little crazy).  You are the coolest bunch of kids and I have loved every day of our time together. Remember - No matter how big and old you get, you will always be Room 14 2022 and you will always be my little rays of sunshine.

We are unbelievably lucky to have the support of so many incredible families who have transported for trips, walked to the race course for a run in the rain, provided plates of food, helped with homework, turned up to watch shows, assemblies, masses, for parent meetings and working bees... Thank you. Every tiny, little bit you do makes a huge difference and we couldn't have done it without you.

Have a wonderful break with your whanau.

Information to Parents & Caregivers

Points to note:

We will be having a triathlon and biathlon at the swimming sports this year. The triathlon involves swim, bike and running. The run and biking will be in the park next door and will not entail riding on the road. If your child wants to participate in this they will need to bring their bike and helmet with them to the Aquatic Centre.  Bikes will be secure inside the Aquatic Centre.

The biathlon is a swim and run.

Children will choose one of these events, not both.

  • The programme is for our middle and senior school students - Years  4, 5 & 6.

  • The swimming sports will be held at the Rotorua Aquatic Centre on Tarewa Road in Rotorua.

  • Years 4 – 6 students need to be dropped off at the Aquatic Centre on the day by 8:45 am.

  • Swimming sports will finish at approximately 2:30pm. Children need to be collected from the Aquatic Centre by 3:00pm at the latest.

  • If your child attends After School Care or they usually catch the bus home they will be picked up by bus and returned to school from the Aquatic Centre at 2:30 pm.

  • Children may come to swimming sports in their house colours, they may wear their togs under their clothes. There will be points for the ‘Best Dressed House.’ Teachers will be dressing up too!

  • Children will need – togs & towel, sunhat, sunblock, warm clothes, morning tea, lunch & water.

Should the event need to be cancelled, this information will be put on our website by 7:30 am and a notification sent via Facebook and the school phone app.

FRIDAY

Mystery Trip

Wow, what a great response of volunteers for our mystery trip on Monday the 5th December. Unfortunately, we are unable to take everyone. Parents that are driving have a notice coming home today.

Kids and drivers will need to be at school no later than 8:45 as we will be leaving the school then. Kids will be able to wear mufti and will need a backpack with the following sunscreen, hats, morning tea, lunch, water bottle, togs or change of clothes and towel (don't forget underwear). You will not need any form of device.

Plan:

Leave school no later than 9am

Arrive at first check-in and complete the challenges with the team (car driver) leader,  eat morning tea.

11:30 travel to the second destination and eat lunch.

2:00 gather up into cars and be ready to return to school by 2:15.

Kids that are on the bus and after school care will be back in time.

Regards,

Mrs. D, & Mrs T

Week 5 already - how did that happen?

No swimming again this week but we do have cricket on Thursday. Bringing your PE gear is a good idea. Your water bottle and hat are also essential kit for our busy week. Covid seems to be doing the rounds again. Our air purifier is cleaned and working, windows opened, surfaces cleaned and there's sanitiser at the door. We're doing our part but please be vigilant and don't come to school if you are unwell.

Heads up - we have an end of year trip on Monday 5th December. We'll need lots of parents to help. More information will be sent home soon but I wanted to give you a bigger window to make arrangements.

Week 4 Term 4 2022

Last week was a whirlwind - we had the Make the difference swim team come in to work with us, we organised and ran the All Saints/All Souls liturgy, Mrs T and Mrs D had a maths course, some of the crew went to RATs duathlon... This week looks much calmer.

Monday: Teacher Only Day

Tuesday:

Wednesday:

Thursday:

Friday: Kahui Ako Kapa Haka festival (just Ahurei kids)

Doesn't that look lovely?!

This week we are going to have a little bit of fun with our writing - we'll see how it turns out. In maths we are looking at using basic facts as a strategy to solve problems (don't forget to check out the slides we made with loads of great basic facts games to play). We're also looking at patterning (algebra) and a little graphing (statistics). We also have a few assessments coming up, too - check out these reminders - they are important.

Reminders

- wear your activity tracker, please (we use data in maths and for the competition)

- charge your Chromebook every night (we use them almost everyday)

- bring your headphones everyday (essential - online assessments coming up)

- bring your reading books everyday (yes, we read everyday even in Year 4!)

- the bell to come in and get organised is at 8:30 and our school day starts at 8:45 (a few kids are arriving at/after 9am and are missing out on a lot of important information that sets the kids up for a successful day)

We are all getting a bit tired but "I forgot" is fast becoming the most annoying phrase of my day. A few gentle reminders, at home, would go a long way to helping to restore my sanity and prevent even more wasted time at school.

Okay - grumble finished.

For those incredible, wonderful, supportive and intelligent souls who have read all the way to the bottom of the post - the magic word is Abracadabra. Write it on a piece of paper and quietly slip it to Mrs T, before 9am on Tuesday.
Shhh! Don't tell anyone.

Save the Date.
