Thanks Everyone

Thanks, everyone for a fantastic term.

It has been a whirlwind

and we couldn't have done it without you.

Have a wonderful break with your gorgeous kids.

If you haven't done it already...

Don't forget to fill in the Athletics Day info - PLEASE.

Starry Night

We have finally finished our calendar art.

We had a lot of fun and learned some very interesting things along the way. Our calendar art is based on Vincent van Gogh's Starry Night - it's worth a lot of money. Starry Night is what Vincent saw from his bedroom window when he was in hospital. Vincent was an amazing artist but he wasn't always a very happy guy. Sometimes we have negative thoughts but Vincent couldn't turn his off and find his happy again - maybe someone should have taught him about the zones of regulation?

Here is a sneak peak at our beautiful art - we think our art should be displayed in art galleries, too.

Sneak Peak

Here's a sneak peak at the hall foyer - Shhhh!
Miss Ryan and I have been busy this weekend.

Everything comes down and gets packed away again on Friday and I'm going to need help - guess who the lucky 'volunteers' are?

See you in the morning
Get lots of sleep tonight - you'll need it this week.

Week 10 Term 3 2022 - The Sprint for the Finish!

This week is going to be pretty hectic so hold onto your
Blue Suede Socks!!!

Monday: Rest In Peace Queen Elizabeth

Tuesday: Dress Rehearsals. Please, don't be late - our dress rehearsal starts at 9:30 and we need to have our morning jobs done and be dressed and ready by 9:20.

There is a Netsafe meeting for parents on Tuesday evening - see info below. It will be held in Room 14 so you'll all know the way.

Wednesday: SHOWTIME!
Hair and make up suggestions can be found on the Production site. Make up isn't really needed for the matinee but is an option, for those who want to, for the evening show.
Matinee Performance starts at 1pm - there are still a few tickets for this show. We will be having a late lunch so a few extra snacks in the lunchbox to eat while we wait our turn on stage might be a good idea. And please remember your water bottle.

Evening show starts at 6pm. The evening show is SOLD OUT! Kids need to be back at school by 5:30. Our 'Green Room' is Room 2 and kids can be collected from Room 2 at the end of the show. Miss M will be with Room 14 as I will be backstage (Thank Goodness for Miss M!)

Thursday: Team B performances today so we will be working VERY quietly.

Friday: Last Day of Term AND Miss Ms Last Day
Today is the day of the great class scrub down! Wahooooo!
We have had another incredible term and have all grown and learned so much. We will be having a shared morning tea to celebrate our successes and to farewell Miss M.  She has been a God send this term and the kids and I will all miss her. Luckily, she won't be going far and has already put her name on the St Marys relievers list. If kids could bring a small plate of food to share that would be really great.

Learning/Revision
This week we are juggling the show with writing a few different poems for a special present - shhhh!, some mystery maths AND we are finishing our calendar art. If the good copies of the calendar art turn out as well as the practice copies they are going to be super. My simple calendar art idea has already spun into learning a little bit about history, famous art and artists and mental health. I love teaching curious kids.

NETSAFE. Tuesday 5:45pm in Room 14.
This is an opportunity for our community to get advice from online experts. Help keep yourself and your whanau safe online. This is an open event so please bring your friends and whanau.

Please keep sharing the link regularly. You will find the button just under your name and our school's name. Please read the booklet the children brought home for more information.

Colour In Competition

We will be holding a Colour In Competition during the holidays.  Colour in the picture and return to school by the event day (21 October) and be in to win a prize. You are able to print a copy  here

Please, fill in this form so that we are ready for Athletics Day next term. This is the same for that was shared through the app, however, some devices seem to be arguing with the app at the moment so here it is again.

Week 9 Term 3 2022

This week we will be putting the finishing touches on our school production - the whole school is buzzing with excitement!  The props are made, the stage is ready to be set up and I have spent my afternoon dying Blue Suede Socks to add to our costumes (my family think I've lost the plot!). A big thanks to the people who have already brought in their costumes. Don't freak out if you haven't sent anything in, yet - dress rehearsals are later this week but as soon as possible would be really great. Please, please, please name each item of clothing and the bag that they come to school in. This will make things much easier - Thank you.

Room 14 Costumes

Plain White T-Shirt / Shirt or Top

GIRLS: Any coloured knee length Skirt (No tight mini skirts)

BOYS: Any plain BLACK or NAVY BLUE pants, jeans or track pants.

Scarves/ties and blue suede socks are being provided.

Hair

Boys = gelled up hair either slicked back or spiky

Girls = slicked back high ponytail or Half up Half down

Make Up

Show lights can wash out faces on stage. Especially in the nighttime performances. A little make-up is all that is needed for the class dances but it is up to you and the kids to decide if you want to wear it or not.

The Little Red Rocking Hood Production site has heaps of information, including pictures of hair and make-up. The kids all have access to this site through their Year 4-6 landing page.

Outside of the rehearsals etc, we are going to keep rolling with our learning. We will wrap up our poetry unit, do some maths review work and work on spelling and reading in our home classes.

We have quite a few people already enrolled in the colour fun run. We are really grateful for the funds being raised for our school but we know that sometimes things can be a bit tight so please don't feel pressured to

give/ask for more than you are comfortable with. It looks like so much fun - I am looking forward to it.

Week 8 Term 3 2022

Time seems to be slipping past at an alarming rate! How did we get to week 8? The kids of Room 14 are amazing. They are still showing up with happy faces and are still jumping into every activity we can throw at them... but, we're a bit tired so are a little sensitive at times. Please, remember your water bottle each day. Staying hydrated really helps with our learning and our moods. We have 3 very busy and exciting weeks ahead. Stay informed - check the blogs and newsletters so you don't miss out.

This Week

Mon:  Library

Tue:

Wed: Chess and Lawn Bowls lunchtime clubs, Kapa Haka

Thur:

Fri: Mini Marathon, Pasifika

Our Learning:

Literacy: we are using our reading books and poetry writing to build our vocabulary.  If you come across any new and interesting words, feel free to share them with us. We are going to have a word (or 2) of the day - our challenge will be to use the word of the day when speaking or in our writing.

Mathematics: We are continuing to learn our basic facts (times tables, 100, 10s and 1s, basic addition/subtraction, counting...) and we will be using known facts to solve some word problems.

RE: We are learning about the gifts of the Holy Spirit and how we can use these gifts to bring a little bit of God into the world.

Operation Christmas Child.

Room 14 has a shoebox which we will pack with different gifts, prayers, and letters. This will be sent to a child across the world who would not normally receive a gift on Christmas Day. Your child may wish to put a little something special into the box. Look at  “Operation Christmas Child Videos 2022” which has some inspiring videos and ideas. We are going to gift our Christmas box to an 8-9year old boy.

Little Red Rocking Hood                                                                    We are getting pretty excited now.  We have set aside a little space for costumes. Please, make sure everything is named and that they are in a bag that is also clearly named. Thanks, heaps!

Get behind the school and help us reach our goal.  This is replacing the Gala Day this year.

How Does My Child Fundraise?

Firstly, go to schoolfunrun.co.nz and create a student profile page. Everything to do with your fundraising revolves around this page. Share the page with family and friends (Facebook, Email or text) and let the fundraising begin.  The children can offer to do a chore, help in some way to exchange for sponsorship.  The children can have fun watching their page evolve, collect stickers, earn badges and see the leader board.

Students who raise just $10 will be able to choose a prize! The more they raise, the better their reward – you will find the full range in your sponsorship form.

WIN  JUICY’S FOR THE CLASS

The class who has the most profiles by Friday 16th will receive Juicy’s.

Winners will have the Juicy’s delivered to their class on Monday 20 September.

Week 7 Term 3 2022

 Mālō e lelei!

It's Tongan language week. Maybe you and your kāinga (extended family) might want to learn a few words or phrases to celebrate. There are tons of great resources online. Here's one to get you started.  Maybe you could learn to count to ten = noa, taha, ua, tolu, fā, nima, ono, fitu, valu, hiva, hongofulu

CONGRATULATIONS
Room 14 , our assembly was
absolutely crazy and there was soooo much happening all the time but you totally nailed it! Even when things got a little out of control you were cool, calm and collected. I could not be more proud.
People Pickers - you had a really tricky job because we didn't know if the players were at school. You handled the changes beautifully and without a single flicker of worry.
Game Masters - You really didn't need a mic. You had so much energy and you were very organised with your games and kept the players moving.
Quiz masters - you were clear, energetic and kept everyone's attention. Fabulous job and wonderful teamwork.
Assembly CREW - you might have had the hardest jobs. You needed to remember when to jump up, sit down or move to help your buddy. You spoke clearly, you didn't get distracted by the chaos and you kept the assembly running on time and our audience in check. Ariana and Iquita you were fierce with those whistles. James D and Mac you didn't miss a single cue, and you had a lot.

Mr Macmillan has put some photos on Facebook (some are a bit blurry - I think he must have been a little too excited when he took them). If any of our whanau have any decent shots, can you please share them with us? Miss M and I were so busy we didn't get to take any photos AND our video plans fell through at the last minute.

This week
Thankfully, we have a fairly 'normal' week this week so we can recover from the roller coaster we just survived. We can settle down, get stuck in to our work and actually finish some things properly - that'll be nice.  For an overview of our learning - see week 6s post (but this time we'll finish it).

Library on Monday - don't forget.
Happy Fathers Day
